December at Oakland Court was filled with festive cheer, creativity and togetherness as we celebrated the Christmas season with a variety of joyful activities.
The home was alive with laughter, conversation and the true spirit of Christmas shared between residents, staff and our wonderful visitors. See how we celebrated Christmas across both our homes.
We were delighted to welcome local sixth form students who spent time with our residents making woolly Christmas Gonks. The lounge was buzzing with creativity as everyone chatted, laughed, and enjoyed working together, creating a lovely atmosphere and bringing generations together.
Festive crafts continued throughout the month, with residents making beautiful Christmas cards for loved ones and colourful wreaths using felt and paper plates. Glitter, bright colours, and festive designs filled the room, and the finished creations were proudly displayed in the lounge for everyone to admire.
The delicious smells of baking filled the home as residents helped make jam tarts and lemon curd tarts. Using pastry cutters and adding fillings supported fine motor skills, while reminiscing about baking from years gone by brought plenty of smiles. Enjoying the treats together with a cup of tea was the perfect ending.
We also enjoyed a lovely trip to Haskins Roundstone Garden Centre, where residents admired the Christmas decorations and twinkling lights before sharing a delicious meal together. Back at Oakland Court, our cheeky Elf provided plenty of laughs as he joined in with exercise sessions and caused festive mischief.
To finish the month, we were grateful for the generosity of local businesses who donated raffle prizes for our Christmas party, helping us raise a wonderful amount. We also enjoyed a heart-warming visit from Scruffy the therapy dog, whose gentle nature brought smiles to everyone’s faces.
