Our Story: A Legacy of Care
Oakland Care Group’s roots run deep in our community, stretching back over three decades. Our story begins with Stanley Stephens, a visionary local businessman who saw an opportunity to give back to the area he loved.
In the early 1990s, Stanley founded what would become Oakland Care Group with a simple yet powerful mission: to provide the highest quality care that our community deserves. He believed that everyone, regardless of age or condition, should have access to compassionate, personalised care in a warm, home-like environment.
Stanley’s dedication to excellence and his commitment to treating residents like family quickly set Oakland apart. As the years passed, his vision grew from a single care home into the group we know today, always maintaining those core values of dignity, respect, and quality care.
Today, Stanley’s legacy lives on through his daughter, Suzanne Evans, and grandson, Michael Evans. Together, they continue to lead Oakland Care Group with the same passion and principles that Stanley instilled from the beginning. Under their guidance, we’ve continued to evolve and grow, embracing new technologies and care practices while never losing sight of our fundamental purpose – to provide exceptional care that feels like home.
Suzanne and Michael have successfully blended Stanley’s traditional values with modern innovations, ensuring that Oakland Care Group remains at the forefront of residential care in West Sussex. They’ve maintained our commitment to being a true part of the community, fostering strong relationships with local healthcare providers, community groups, and families.

We are registered care providers
We are registered care providers with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. Both our homes are rated ‘Good’ by the CQC, which means that we have met the CQC’s high standards of quality and safety.
