Reflections of June at Oakland Grange

June at Oakland Grange was a month filled with engaging activities, memorable celebrations, and joyful moments.

Week 1: We kicked off the month with a lively game of skittles organised by Nick, which was fantastic. The competitive spirit was alive during our dominoes sessions, challenging minds and fostering friendly rivalry. Geoff’s musical performance was a highlight, uniting residents with his tunes. Our newest resident, Beryl, enthusiastically joined in, singing and dancing along. The week ended on a creative note with an arts and crafts day, where residents expressed their artistic talents and added a splash of colour to their week.

Week 2: We marked the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, honouring the service and sacrifice of those who turned the tide in the Second World War. It was a solemn yet proud commemoration.

Week 3: We introduced a tablet to our activities, adding a modern touch and enhancing engagement among residents. Excitement for the Euros 2024 swept through Oakland Grange as residents picked their countries for the sweepstake. Interactive games like giant snakes and ladders provided mental stimulation, physical exercise, and social interaction. We celebrated John’s 95th birthday with a special party, making it a memorable day for him and his family. A visit to the “Tudor Pub” was enjoyed by residents, combining their love for football with a game of Trivial Pursuit on the new tablet. We celebrated Father’s Day and watched the Trooping of the Colour.

Week 4: The month concluded with the grand celebration of Bundy’s 102nd birthday. Staff and family gathered to honour her remarkable life, filled with resilience and wisdom. Jeanette’s visits brought joy with her music and quizzes, keeping minds sharp and spirits high. Residents enjoyed a creative activity of designing their own jigsaw puzzles, led by George, who also completed another large puzzle featuring iconic London landmarks.

In June, our residents enjoyed every moment, from games and crafts to commemorations and performances.
