Reflections of June at Oakland Grange

As summer arrived in full bloom, June at Oakland Grange was bursting with laughter, creativity, & community spirit.

We kicked off June with the sweet scent of baking jam tarts, as residents rolled up their sleeves and recreated nostalgic treats. Music was a major theme this month, residents clapped, danced, and sang along with the incredible Mr. Shiny Shoes (Ryan), the radiant Leyla, and the talented Shay. We also welcomed Zoe for her show-stopping debut and enjoyed a special Saturday treat from the Davidson Youth Concert Band, whose performance lifted everyone’s spirits.

Our creative side blossomed with a colourful flower arranging session, while Dip Tasting Day gave our taste buds a thrill, from sweet honey chocolate to tangy cheese & chive, it was a foodie adventure. We also celebrated Father’s Day with tributes to the wonderful gentlemen of Oakland Grange, enjoying stories and a slice (or two!) of cake. Speaking of celebrations, John and Linda both marked special birthdays with joy, laughter, and loving company.

Throughout the month, our dedicated staff continued to shine, not just in their care but in their ability to bring residents into the heart of the fun. From spontaneous sing-alongs to peaceful garden moments, their energy and kindness are what make our home truly special. We were especially proud to open our doors for Care Home Open Day, inviting visitors to experience the warmth and vibrancy of Oakland Grange life.

Week-by-week we kept bodies moving with Sit & Be Fit, enjoyed the thoughtful creativity of Knit & Natter, and cooled down on hot days with hydration treats like ice lollies and iced coffee. Residents like John impressed us with their green fingers in the garden and puzzle-solving skills indoors. And in preparation for our upcoming summer celebration, everyone got crafty making psychedelic headbands during our arts & crafts afternoon.

June was truly a month to remember, a blend of tradition and spontaneity, quiet reflection and lively festivity.
