Reflections of January at Oakland Court

January at Oakland Court has been a wonderful start to the New Year, filled with meaningful activities, laughter, and plenty of opportunities to stay active, creative, & connected.

We continued to ensure that every resident felt valued and supported, with birthdays celebrated as special and joyful occasions for all.

With the winter weather making it harder to get out and about, gentle exercise remained an important focus. Residents took part in regular exercise sessions led by Debbie, helping to keep both bodies and minds active. We also enjoyed dough hand exercises, which were calming and perfect for maintaining hand strength and flexibility, leaving everyone feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Baking activities were once again a highlight, with residents getting hands-on making spiced biscuits and sweet pastry palmiers. These sessions provided gentle finger exercise while creating delicious treats to enjoy together. The home was filled with wonderful aromas, laughter, and shared memories as we baked and chatted.

We enjoyed a wide range of social and creative activities throughout the month, including word games, bingo with Elle, active games, gardening with Tony, singing with Kerry and Sue, and listening to trumpet music played by Geoff. One particularly fun moment was our lively game of Blankety Blank, which had everyone laughing at the brilliant answers shared.

Residents also enjoyed relaxing water therapy sessions using Manuka honey hand and foot scrubs, creating a soothing and pampering experience. Creative activities included making bird feeders, which are now placed outside to attract wildlife, as we look forward to taking part in the national bird watch later in the month.

As January comes to a close, it’s been lovely to see our home filled with smiles, conversation, and positive energy. We look forward to continuing this wonderful start to the year, with more activities, shared moments, and happiness at Oakland Court.
