Chef – Care Home Catering | Felpham, Bognor Regis

At Oakland Care Group, we are committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care within a warm and welcoming environment. We are seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Chef to join our dedicated catering team at our residential care home in Felpham, Bognor Regis.

The successful candidate will prepare and serve nutritious, home-cooked meals for our residents, ensuring all food is prepared to the highest standards and meets individual dietary requirements. You will play a key role in creating enjoyable dining experiences while maintaining excellent food hygiene, health and safety, and infection control standards.

  • Prepare and cook nutritious meals in accordance with the planned menu.
  • Deliver a three-course lunch and dinner service for residents.
  • Ensure meals meet dietary, nutritional, and individual resident requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and portion control.
  • Complete all kitchen records, including temperature checks and food safety documentation.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment.
  • Follow food hygiene, health and safety, and infection prevention procedures.
  • Assist with stock control and notify management of replenishment requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with kitchen assistants and the wider care home team.
  • Participate in menu planning and contribute ideas for meal variety and nutrition.
  • Support catering requirements for events, celebrations, and special occasions.
  • Attend mandatory training and comply with company policies and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Previous experience working as a Chef, Cook, or Assistant Chef.
  • Ability to prepare meals for large numbers of people.
  • Strong understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety standards.
  • Knowledge of dietary requirements and nutritional needs.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining quality standards.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience working within a care home, healthcare, or residential setting.
  • Knowledge of special diets, including diabetic, vegetarian, texture-modified, and allergy-specific meals.
  • Experience participating in menu planning and stock management.
  • Understanding of CQC requirements relating to catering services.
  • Experience catering for events and functions.
  • Basic budgeting and cost control awareness.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Evidence of cooking ability and experience within a professional kitchen environment.

Desirable

  • Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene Certificate.
  • Professional Cookery Qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
  • First Aid Qualification.
  • Health & Safety Training.
  • Training in Nutrition and Special Diets.
  • Knowledge of CQC standards and care home catering requirements.
